From Climate Reporting to Game Design:
GAME4CHANGE Workshop Brings 40 Participants Together in Kyiv
Forty participants from academia, journalism, technology and civil society took part in the Multiplier Event GAME4CHANGE External Evaluation Workshop of Educational Modules at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv on 25 June 2026. The workshop reviewed all seven modules developed as part of the Erasmus+ GAME4CHANGE – Digital Serious Games for Climate Change Education project, and explored how documented environmental cases can become educational game concepts.
The group included 28 university teaching and research staff, six journalists and media professionals, three climate-technology and IT developers, two environmental NGO trainers and one student representative. Together, they examined the materials through pedagogical, communication and technical perspectives.
The programme moved from environmental education and the EU climate policy framework to digital transformation, serious games in higher education, game design and classroom implementation. Participants discussed learning objectives, the accuracy of climate information, Ukrainian terminology, accessibility and the feasibility of using the materials with limited connectivity or modest equipment.
In mixed groups, participants used documented environmental cases reported in Ukrainian media as the starting point for an initial serious game concept.
Each group defined a learning objective, player roles, meaningful decisions and the consequences of different choices. They also considered which facts the game would simplify and how a follow-up discussion could connect gameplay with learning.
According to the final evaluation report, 39 of the 40 participants (97.5%) reported greater confidence in training target groups to use the materials and serious games. Thirty-eight (95%) intended to redesign a syllabus or teaching activity to include the proposed tools. These findings describe self-reported confidence and intentions; follow-up is needed to establish how the resources are used in practice.
